Parenting Performance Appraisal Checklist
In What Your Child Needs From You, I talk about what mindful parenting looks like and the connection that it has to the wellbeing of our children. I also include a list of statements that children who receive mindful parenting would affirm.
I encourage you to use these checklists as the basis for an interview or a conversation with your kids.
One of the best things about kids is their honesty. They are quite capable of highlighting what they think we are doing wrong as parents and what we could do to improve. However, I hope you will see that not everything our kids say about us is criticism. By participating in the “Parenting Performance Appraisal” there will be precious affirmations of goodness said about the things we are getting right too.
Happy families don’t just happen. Decades of research indicates that kids whose parents are mindful of their emotional needs and take the time to engage with them when needed, are kids who are more confident, happier, better adjusted, do better at school and cope with life’s challenges more effectively.
