I like to remind parents that “nature is fuel for the soul”. Dozens of studies highlight that nature builds wellbeing.
But nature also does some other important things in the context of our connection challenge:
First, nature offers us the chance to be together in beautiful spaces. We connect better when we’re outside and free of distractions, enjoying our incredible world.
Second, nature often encourages us to be peaceful; mindful. We slow down and take notice. The wellbeing benefits are significant.
Third, nature provides us with the ability to be active. Physical activity is amazing for our wellbeing.
For this challenge, select a favourite nearby “place of beauty”. It might be a river or park. It could be the beach or a trail or hilltop.
Either before or after school (or if it’s
the weekend pick a time that works), take a hike or a ride together. Walk, agenda-free, and enjoy the peace, the activity, and the connection. Let her direct the conversation and see where it leads.
